In 2021 the LatterGayStories community started collecting copies of The Miracle of Forgiveness books from home and thrift-store shelves. Written by Spencer W. Kimball, the Miracle of Forgiveness is neither miraculous or forgiving. The book teaches that its better to be dead than unchaste. It teaches that parents are to blame for having gay children. It ensures that just BEING gay (not acting on it) is a sin. Kimball promises that being gay is a criminal behavior, it is linked to pedophilia, is caused by masturbation, and is completely curable with prayer and righteous church service.
The book sold over 1.7 million copies. And was also a leading cause of shame and suicidality for Latter-day Saints who read it. After collecting over 6,200 copies of the book. We are repurposing many of those copies into art. We are turning pain into prosperity–and showing that the queer community is NOT what Kimball promised them to be. Join us for a grand event! Doors open at 6:30 PM. The Miracle of Forgiveness art will be on display throughout the evening. There will be desserts, drinks, and hor d’oeuvres, mixing-mingling, and we will finish the night with dancing and a private concert by Suit Up, Soldier.
Purchase your ticket now. Artists can still submit their work for the gala here.
