Salt Lake Juneteenth Celebration & Black Owned Business Expo coming on Monday June 20th

Juneteenth was born when on June 19, 1865, the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas was finally given; more than 2 and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is now a recognized US and Utah State holiday that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans.

Salt Lake Juneteenth Celebration is a FREE community event – a celebration of resilience and joy! This family friendly, community celebration is open to the public. Salt Lake Juneteenth will be held in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City at the Gateway Mall.

This celebration will feature will kick off with the Beloved Community Juneteenth Celebration Walk, where attendees will walk from the Utah State Capitol Building to Salt Lake City & County Building. The celebration will then convene back at The Gateway where the Black Owned Business Expo will feature local businesses and food trucks as vendors for the event, the Black Art Exhibit will be on display featuring talented visual artists, and music, entertainment, a kids’ corner, storytelling, roller skating, movie night, and much more will be available for all to enjoy!

As we continue to emerge from the lasting effects of the Pandemic, where Black owned businesses have been disproportionately negatively impacted, this community centered event will allow these businesses the opportunity to showcase their goods and services, receive networking opportunities and receive access to resources.
