Utah Arts Alliance announces the fourth annual ILLUMINATE: Utah’s Light Art and Creative Tech Fest. ILLUMINATE  is a celebration of innovation and imagination for the community, art lovers, and families. Artists working with technology and using light as their medium will use the city as their canvas and create projection-mapped artwork, light art displays and exhibits for the community to experience throughout the month.

Dreamscapes and ILLUMINATE have partnered with Element 11 to bring you Lumen Land – Salt Lake City’s first outdoor light art and technology immersive experience.
Lumen Land is a walk-through labyrinth of luminous whimsy bringing 3D art and technology together suitable for all ages to attend. Lumen Land showcases the marrying of physical art and technology in a 17,000 square ft outdoor space. The project consists of large and small scale installations and photo opportunities created by local artists in Salt Lake City and surrounding areas!

Join us behind the scenes to promote and operate the Utah Arts Alliance fourth annual ILLUMINATE: Utah’s Light Art and Creative Tech Fest. To accommodate COVID safety, ILLUMINATE moves away from the traditional festival model to present artworks to be enjoyed throughout the month on a self-guided tour without the concerns of a mass gathering. From large-scale projections to intimate performances to the introduction of Lumen Land, ILLUMINATE invites the community to experience art together, yet separate, as we explore the healing power of art.

We will provide you with a list of stops, you get to pick the order you visit them in. Complete a task at each stop for a free Lumen Land ticket and to be entered to win prizes donated by local community partners.

For the Utah Arts Alliance, along with so many others in our community, the future of our organization is uncertain.

From the beginning, we’ve relied on in-person events and programs because we believe the act of gathering is a powerful tool for creating community, especially in the arts. Due to the pandemic, we are now shifting our programming to include new online and digital elements to foster the arts in other ways. We are doing our best to pivot with the resources we have available to continue supporting the artists in our community.

We are asking, if you are able, for your support this #GivingTuesday. We believe the arts are an integral part of the fabric of our communities and any donation we receive will go directly to our programs and cultural facilities that support artists and creatives in Utah. The support we receive during #GivingTuesday will also go toward the free or low-cost opportunities to experience arts and culture that we have always provided in our community.

It will be through the generous giving of individuals and organizations in our community, that we and so many others will be able to weather these unprecedented times. We ask that if you find yourself unable to donate today, that you show your generosity in other ways such as volunteering your time or through crowdfunding efforts.

It is undeniable the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had and we stand with those being affected,” Said Derek Dyer, Executive Director of the Utah Arts Alliance. “At the UAA we know the path of an artist has never been easy and we stand, especially, with the artists and creatives in our community who are struggling to find adequate resources and support. Now, more than ever, we are committed to fostering the arts and supporting our creative community in the ways that we can. We think that #GivingTuesday is an opportunity to get creative and expand the ways in which we give in order to support others. It’s a chance to show limitless kindness, compassion, and gratitude in spite of this moment’s uncertainty.”

“Transport” is Urban Arts Gallery’s most eclectic show of the year, featuring work from a diversity of styles and approaches. From fantasy and surrealism to illustration and abstraction, “Transport” offers the viewer glimpses into the minds of Utah’s most inventive artists.
Featured artists include Adam Hoffman, Alex Maher, Alexander Hofstetter, Alice Bain Toler, Alison Johnstun, Amy Gillespie, Arash Soveiri, Candice Sciortino, Carlton Lovejoy, Colin Gentry, Emma Goldgar, Garnett Wyatt, Gary L Hall, Greig Leach, Halley Bruno, Hank Mattson, Jenisse Taylor, Jeremy Fagergren, Juan Pablo Gasca, Mavi Blue, Nathan Doverspike, Newton Ewell, Scott Robinson, Stacy Tonozzi, and Todd Powelson.
“Transport” will hang November 3rd through 29th, with a gallery stroll reception on November 20th from 6-9pm. Admission is free and open to the public.

Connect is a free, regular pop-up art exhibit that invites all visual artists to showcase up to two pieces of their art. Connect provides the necessary tools for establishing a career in the arts gained through lectures, workshops, and activities. Attendees participate by voting for their favorite pieces, which helps prepare and educate the artists.

Connect is perfect for emerging artists and art lovers. The program was established in 2010 by Utah Arts Alliance in Salt Lake City, UT. Learn more here.

About our Connect program:
Connect is a free, monthly pop-up art exhibit that invites all visual artists to showcase their art (up to two pieces). Helpful connections and friendships are made as artists learn skills necessary for art careers, gained through lectures, workshops, and activities. Attendees complete the evening by voting for their favorite art, an experience that helps prepare and educate the participating artists.
About Connect Finals:
All of the finalists throughout the year of 2020 are invited to a special event on December 11th, for a final voting in three categories, Year Long Choice ($1,500 prize), Artist Choice ($1,500 prize), and Patron Choice ($1,000 prize).

UAA 99.9 FM, Salt Lake City’s newest independent, listener supported community radio station, broadcasting programming that is innovative, human-driven and free from commercial influence. Because KUAA doesn’t have commercials, we rely on individuals and businesses in our community to underwrite and sponsor the station, to help keep us on the air and growing!

What is underwriting?

STEAMpunk Academy is going virtual this year with our annual Gingerbread Bridge Building Contest! Your mission is to build a 9″ bridge using gingerbread that can support the weight of many fruitcakes. Instead of being given supplies for you to build the night of destruction, we are giving you a week and letting you get your own materials to do it on your own time. Then you will drop off your bridges at Kiitos Brewing, 608 West 700 South, on Saturday Dec 5th and we will live stream the judging and destruction that night.
