#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity, set to take place on May 5, 2020 as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world. The Utah Arts Alliance is participating in #GivingTuesdayNow because of the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on our programs, events, and cultural facilities.
For the Utah Arts Alliance, along with so many others in our community, the future of our organization is uncertain. For over a month we have closed all of our cultural facilities and stopped hosting all community events and because of this, a majority of our revenue sources have significantly decreased. Until we can safely re-open all cultural facilities and once again embrace our full range of programming, our revenue will continue to suffer.
From the beginning, we’ve relied on in-person events and programs because we believe the act of gathering is a powerful tool for creating community, especially in the arts. Due to the pandemic, we are now shifting our programming to include new online and digital elements to foster the arts in other ways. We are doing our best to pivot with the resources we have available and preparing for the day we believe we can safely re-open our facilities and connect through in-person events and festivals.
We are asking, if you are able, for your support this #GivingTuesdayNow. We believe the arts are an integral part of the fabric of our communities and any donation we receive will go directly to our programs and cultural facilities that support artists and creatives in Utah. The support we receive during #GivingTuesdayNow will also go toward the free or low-cost opportunities to experience arts and culture that we have always provided in our community.
It will be through the generous giving of individuals and organizations in our community, that we and so many others will be able to weather these unprecedented times. We ask that if you find yourself unable to donate today, that you show your generosity in other ways whether it be through helping a neighbor, showing gratitude to our healthcare workers, or sharing in the skills or resources you have at hand. Every act of generosity counts and we hope that you will find a way to join us on this day of giving and unity.
“We recognize this moment of extreme crisis as having an irreversible effect on individuals and communities across the globe. It is undeniable the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had and we stand with those being affected,” Said Derek Dyer, Executive Director of the Utah Arts Alliance. “At the UAA we know the path of an artist has never been easy and we stand, especially, with the artists and creatives in our community who are struggling to find adequate resources and support. Now, more than ever, we are committed to fostering the arts and supporting our creative community in the ways that we can. We think that #GivingTuesdayNow is an opportunity to get creative and expand the ways in which we give in order to support others. It’s a chance to show limitless kindness, compassion, and gratitude in spite of this moment uncertainty.”
