Openness may not completely disarm prejudice, but it’s a good place to start.”

In honor of Pride Month, The Urban Arts Gallery presents “SLC Queer,” a collection of artwork created by local LGBTQIA+ artists.
Guest curated by Madazon Can-Can, this exhibit seeks to provide support and recognition for these local artists and their diverse styles and identities.

“SLC Queer” will hang from June 2nd to June 28th.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The Urban Arts Gallery open! Come on down and see us! But we have some new store policies to keep you and the staff safe while we continue to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

1. Staff and customers must wear masks while in the Urban Arts Gallery.
We’ll have Utah Arts Alliance face masks available for sale for any customers who don’t have their own mask.

2. Gallery staff may limit entry at any time.
Our space is large, so most of the time it should be easy to respect 10 feet of social distancing while in the gallery. However, if this becomes a concern, customers may be asked to wait outside until others exit.

3. Staff members may enact further precautionary policies if it becomes necessary.
The COVID-19 situation continues to evolve and we continue to learn better ways to ensure our health and safety. The gallery staff may add to or amend our list of policies as we see fit.

Shop for art anywhere, anytime with our online store!

You can still support our talented and hardworking artists from home. We offer shipping, curbside pickup, and even free local delivery (within 15 miles of the gallery)! If you don’t see your favorite gallery artist on here yet, don’t worry! This is just the beginning; we’ll be regularly adding more artists and products as time goes on.

Help The Witches Tarot Card Set Get Made

The Witches Tarot is an original fine art project by artist Chris Madsen of Burning Paper Hearts. This Major Arcana deck is a beautiful and emotional work dedicated to the darker aesthetic.

“Creating an artistic tarot has long been an aspiration of mine, as my art lends itself well to such a project. However, as a full time artist traveling the country and participating in fine art shows and art festivals, finding the time to dedicate to such a large project has been a challenge.

Now, with the onset of the Covid-19 virus, and stay-at-home initiative, the entire festival circuit is shut down for the time being. This has crippled me as well as many other full time artist as we are not able to make income with no shows. As such, I chose to use this time for the creation of the Witch’s Tarot Deck. This project is an awesome way to get way to support a struggling artist while also receiving a unique piece of functional art.”

Comics for health! A call for illustrators for a science and art collaboration project.

Justice Morath from STEAMpunk Academy is doing a unique project that uses illustrations to explain medical and scientific information. They are looking for artists specifically interested in comic and cartoon style illustration to work with medical experts to create informative illustrations for the public. Some funding is available for the artists. If interested, please email Justice.Morath@slcc.edu with a bit about yourself and examples of your work.

SONDERimmersive–known for its unique blend of dance, theatre, audience experience, and unexpected environments–has transformed a SLC parking garage into the town of Fair Verona, where feuding households and unbridled passions are bound to erupt chaos at any moment. Montagues, Capulets, and familiar townspeople live out stories of forbidden love, passion, tragedy, revenge, and redemption, all while maintaining a 6’ social distance.

Through Yonder Window is an hour-long experience created in direct response to our COVID19 moment. The audience never leaves their cars. It is an intimate immersive theatre experience. It is as safe as staying home. (See the website for info on how performers and crew are kept safe in rehearsal and performance)

Upon entering, each car is directed into a specific spot in Verona where they will remain for the entirety of the show, which happens all around them. Depending on where your car is placed, and where your eye is drawn, each has their own experience.

Produced by the creative duo behind Sonder, which occupied a 3-story empty nightclub, and The Chocolatier (formerly Thank You Theobromine) in a working chocolate shop, Graham Brown and Rick Curtiss are back, in collaboration with The Gateway, Utah Arts Alliance, Art Director Jake Buntjer, and Composer Wachira Waigwa-Stone with
