PPA: Personal Protective Art”

We’ve acquired a bunch of blank cloth face masks from our friends at Lost Room Costumes, and we need local artists to transform them! Presenting: “PPA: Personal Protective Art”, an open-call exhibit of creative face masks, from July 10 – August 14 at the Urban Arts Gallery. Our face masks (7.25″w x 4.75″h white cloth) are available at the gallery for $5, or you’re welcome to provide your own! Purchasing a mask through the gallery helps to support the programs of the Utah Arts Alliance, and we’re very grateful for your support. Completed masks are due to the gallery by Wednesday July 8 at 8:30pm. Artists are welcome to submit more than one mask. Contact us at staff@utaharts.org with any questions.
Openness may not completely disarm prejudice, but it’s a good place to start.”

In honor of Pride Month, The Urban Arts Gallery presents “SLC Queer,” a collection of artwork created by local LGBTQIA+ artists.
Guest curated by Madazon Can-Can, this exhibit seeks to provide support and recognition for these local artists and their diverse styles and identities.

“SLC Queer” will hang from June 2nd to June 28th.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Shop for art anywhere, anytime with our online store!

You can still support our talented and hardworking artists from home. We offer shipping, curbside pickup, and even free local delivery (within 15 miles of the gallery)! If you don’t see your favorite gallery artist on here yet, don’t worry! This is just the beginning; we’ll be regularly adding more artists and products as time goes on.

The Adult Science Fair is happening!

Do you long for the days of dioramas? Are your kids sick of you helicoptering their school projects? Do you have a burning question about the world you need answered? Well look no further- it’s the 1st Annual Adult Science Fair!
We will host a Kickoff-Party (streamed) on June 18th at Kiitos Brewing and teams will have a couple weeks to come up with a science project.
Over the course of the summer you will conduct your experiments with the personal guidance of expert mentors! Then you will create a tri-fold or diorama of it, and compete for big prizes at a booze fueled Science Fair in early September at Kiitos!

What would a science project look like? Well, maybe you want to know which hangover cure is most effective. Or maybe you want to get a bit more techy and use public data to find out what the fuck is going on with COVID. Or you could test which ski wax is better. Whatever you come up with, so long as it follows our rules explained at the Kick-Off, we love it. Don’t be afraid to get funny, creative, and edgy.

Stay tuned for registration info and project guidelines. Even if you can’t make it to the Kick-Off, it will be recorded and we still want you to join!
You can also follow here: https://steampunkacademy.org/events/adult-science-fair and on Insta @ STEAMpunkacademySLC
You will need to be 21+ to participate and there will be a small registration fee to cover costs and to keep you from flaking out. There’s science behind that.

What is underwriting?
KUAA 99.9 FM is a non-commercial community radio station supported by contributions and not advertising. When you make a business contribution, your support is acknowledged via on-air messages.
