Art Grants Are Open!

In partnership with Element 11, ILLUMINATE and the Utah Arts Alliance announce a round of art grants to support local artists and showcase unique pieces at ILLUMINATE Light Art and Creative Tech Fest.  ILLUMINATE is seeking individuals and groups from the art and technology sectors to create and/or display installations using light as their medium. Think BIG! (Projection Art, 3D Sculptures, Augmented Reality). ILLUMINATE’s pivot plan for COVID includes areas/pods of activation around Downtown SLC. These areas include Library Square, McCarthey Plaza, The Gateway and the Art Garden at the Arts Hub. Pieces will be up for two – three weeks so that the public can take a self-guided art tour while practicing physical distancing. We are looking for large-scale projects that can tolerate an outdoor setting. We also have an interest in unique projection and lighting pieces for this year’s event. If you have a great idea, let’s talk!

Don’t forget to Vote!

Continuing an annual tradition, Urban Arts Gallery presents “The 10th Annual Skate Deck Challenge”, a vibrant and diverse collection of artwork made with blank skate decks. Local artists are invited to submit artwork—the only rule is that it must be made with a blank skate deck! The result is a colorful and delightful glimpse into the endless creativity of Salt Lake City. You can see the virtual exhibit here.

The polls are open! After you browse our online exhibit or come in to the gallery to see the art in person, vote on your top three skatedecks here.
This is important: voting will CLOSE on Friday, September 18th at 5pm. This is earlier than normal, to ensure we have plenty of time to get ready before announcing the winners at the Urban Arts Fest Elements marketplace that evening.
